Many may have already heard of or even (as in my case) seen this movie. Most will be aware of its controversial movie trailer in which a short clip from the movie is shown, but with no names, no title, just a release date. Slightly similar to the Gears of War "Emergence Day" campaigns.

Now I could've just posted in the Movies topic that this was a good film I had just seen, and that I recommend it. But, because of the movie itself, it desperately needed its own topic.

So, those who have actually seen it may help me back up this point. It's like a terrifying Blair Witch Project.

Let me elaborate. Blair Witch Project was a popular movie. I've seen it, but I personally didn't like it. Was too dull, and you never actually saw the thing they were terrified of. Cloverfield though, gave you a terrifying look into the creature itself, and of course the initial reactions of a civilian, and even the military forces, in the event of contact.

I, personally, think that the directing methods used in the movie were brilliant, and the CG used was even more amazing. More a conceptual documentary.

So, to those who have seen it, do supply your input. Enjoi.

I have a friend who is COMPLETE OBSESSED with this movie, she practically just kills it for me. Just today, she made her own Cloverfield t-shirt and nicknamed the monster "Clovie." She never shuts the hell up about it.

Well, IMO, it wasn't all that great. I was actually trying to sleep while in view of the movie since I didn't want to see it in the first place. But I was dragged along to do so. :[ I did think it had excellent sound though. Has anyone read the manga yet?

Nah but I am fairly interested in that, since it apparently takes place on the sinking ship. They were talking about sequels too, since they say that "A great number of other people could've been filming it".

Yes, I have heard of that before. What I find interesting is that there is a lot of marketing attached to this movie.

Works though doesn't it, I really, really would love to see a sequel and a prequel. I feel as though this fictional event, if you will, has a lot of life.

I have to say, Cloverfield was one of the best movies I've ever seen. They made it look and feel so realistic, it just blew me away. Some people were like "Ew...digital cam. D:" but it ended up making it a extremely realistic movie, and the effects the added just furthered the realism. Can't wait to get the Manga, and can't wait to see if there's going to be a sequel.

The realism is amazing. I mean, if you say to someone a massive "alien" lifeform attacking Manhattan one day is REAL, they'll call you mad. But it's the fact that the way in which the movie is filmed, and the events within, are so realistic, that it puts you under an illusion. Spielberg couldn't RIVAL this movie if he got the scripts.

Very true. But some parts of the movie, the guy who was holding the camera [Forgot his name. D>] just did something completely retarded or said something completely retarded. "Hey guys, you remember that guy who set homeless people on fire in the tunnels?" I mean, wtf?

That dudes name was Hudson, or "Hud". Thing about that is it shows the various reactions of various personalities in that situation. We established from an early point in the movie (prepping Robs party) that Hud isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. And so, he may see a lighter side to the situation, or even be the one to try to keep morale high.

Talking about flaming homeless people is keeping "morale high?"

He found it funny. Maybe he didn't realise it wasn't actually that funny =P Hence, realism.

I quickly browsed this topic. I've only seen trailers. My partner has it downloaded for us to watch. When I watched the trailers in the cinema on Thursday for it I said to my friend "God this looks terribly Blair Witchy!" I hated Blair Witch and thought it was guff. My initial thought of this film is the exact same. It's a modern day Blair Witch with better CGI and even more far-fetched monsters.

Saw it two weeks two three of my classmates....I love the artistic and orginal way they've decided to film it on, though I didn't properly watch it cause part way into the movie I started feeling sick. ^^;

personally I enjoyed it a lot. Blair witch was really just a montage of teenagers running around yelling "Oh god she's going to kill us!" This was actually intelligent in my opinion and was more a documentary of what would happen if a giant monster really did start stomping through a city.

also, <3 the parasites
