Eh, I don't know, I suck at titles. I guess this would be something like you telling us how you thought up your character and or why you thought them up and such. For instance, my character, Ginkgo.

I was getting into the Sonic series, and was getting into making fan fictions and such. Too bad the fan fictions were terrible XD well one time, I had a dream, and some other guy was there. He was black and green, so when I woke up, I started to design a character.

Ginkgo came up as a simple edit first, and with a pretty weird personality. I tried to base him off of what I thought would be unique. Some characteristics that I had, and some I didn't. Later on though, I editted him some more, and changed a few things to make him more original.

Now my character has a last name, has no idea who Sonic is (lawl XD ) is still a nature lover with the power of light, and generally likes almost everything.

I guess that's how I made Ginkgo and how he proceeded through the years. How did your characters proceed, and where did they originate from? Post some details here I guess

Well, when I first made my fan char, Shadow Storm, he was just a simple recolor of Tails to match Shadow the Hedgehog's colors, and didn't have that unique of a bio. He won SZF's Best Fan Char Award back in..god, 2003, or something like that, meaning that I had spent a lot more time showing his personality through Role Playing instead of the original topic I had intended.

Then, I started altering the small things, like his figure [Instead of Tail's body shape [You know, kinda makes him look chubby] I made him slimmer, changed the way his ears looked, and most importantly improved my Role Playing skills.

Then I hacked SZF. Pretty much then and there, my char was dead for the time being. I never improved his bio, I never role played with him again, I never drew him, etc. Then, came here, decided to revive him, so to speak, and now he's a brand new character. :D

Valkyre was originally a StarFox fan character called Shadow but I never made a profile for her or used her in roleplays. Some weeks before joining Grains of Sand, SteelFists's RP, I had made a cat character and at the same time I found an old drawing of Shadow. Valkyre was born sometime later, she was still in development upto november last year.
At the moment she is the second character I have keeped for at least two months. The first being, the first being Rusty, a fox character I made for my younger brother which was a recolor plus 7 extra tails but I cut the tails and made him a hybrid like Valkyre.

Artemis was my very first fancharacter I designed. I used to go to FAC, and everywhere you looked there was sonic fancharacters, so I took a stab at making one myself. Like any n00b, I made her a complete recolor; she was just a female shadow with a skirt and wings, and his sister to boot. After a little while I tried to break away from that; I tried redesigning her and giving her a brother named Apollo, which I never went through with. Eventually, I included her into Luci's history, making her a fire demon, and Luci her reincarnation of sorts. I could never figure out a way to justify Luci being able to use fire, so I figured this would be an easy way to fix that.

My first fanchar. Fear the Bat came to me when i was watching Batman Begins. and as i'm watching i was on Sonic Earth and when I saw scarecrow I thought to myself "What if i can use scarecrow's ability to make a fan char." I then ended with Fear the bat after thinking of MANY different animals and names to pair up that made the most sense

Oshi Bio, this is why I was hesitant on putting up a profile for my fancharacter. She has, let's say. A SHIT LOAD in common with yours. Hell, even the name at one point apparently. I didn't do it intentionally....
DON'T HURT ME!

Anyway, most of my fan characters came off of a need for one to fit the needs of an RP.
Mind you, I was about 11 - 12 at the time, and none of them were too thought out. I only actually started making profiles for them recently, after joining SE. Yeah, it was like trying to make them anew again. Anyway, Kaine is somewhat a representation of myself. His dress sense, his attitude, hell, his height was based loosely on mine. (That might just be because I'm average height... But whatever. Actually, the only reasonable thing that's not like mine, is his blood type.)

My character for life is Steelfists, I know it sounds retarded but he is. I'm still improving him though.

He first started out as an elemental-controlling alien by the name Kayo Shen of the Sodroneses species. He came to earth in search of Sonic and the freedom fighters for their aid in a cosmic traversal to fight an war-like enemy called the Udanians. I scrapped him out after a little while du to a loss in interest of Sonic. Then came in the transition to some years later where I had reawakened it by playing Sonic Heroes.

Here Explosion the hedgehog was created, as a bioweapon under the supervision of Dr.Rammstein (early stage). The thing that scrapped him out of the picture was to due to the fact he had a chaos emerald functioning as a living hear for him. Upon realizing that this made him god-like (and made me look like an idiot) I once again transitioned over.

It was after playing Devil May Cry, Punch-Out, and my love of Kung Fu that Cannon the Ferret was born. Cannon was the premature version of SteelFists, I converted the species due to my boredom of hedgehogs. Cannon was a sage-in-training hailing from a hidden Shaolin Temple that thrived until today. That is when G.U.N. stormed in and had everyone taken away and executed mistaking them for a satanic cult. Only Cannon (who's name at the time was Ryusen) survived, he was brought in as a test subject to a military experiment.

Of course the idea kept reminding me of The Matrix so I decided to not to use him. A considerable amount of time passed before I arrived at Steel. But it occured to me one day that fanchars were sort of like a soup, you just had to mix in a couple of the right ingedients. So I used some inspiration from my boxing fights, watched a couple movies, played some videogames, looked at my old chars. And there you have it, that's how mine came to be.

Quite interesting to hear of peoples characters and how they were created...Interesting stories of how they came to be. ^^

Well, lets go with how one of my favourite characters came to be. (As I have a shit load of them.)

I was sitting on the train, going to see my dad for one weekend, and I was bored as It would take me 30-45 minutes to get there. I whipped out my sketch pad started drawing a human, but I thought just a human would be boring, so I decided to make his whole left side stitched together, making him kinda half puppet.

Not completely satisfied with the first design I draw him again and add claws on his left hand and foot, also making his hair shorter and his left eye nearly completely stitched shut.

With this design I decided to make him a half human, half puppet, who inheirited a demon fox form from his father. (this was LONG before I saw Naruto, so I actually didn't get it from there. xD)

He was kidnapped as a wee baby by an insane puppet master named Oki, who made his body half puppet to enhance it. He made threads run through Raul's whole body.

In Raul's newest design nothing had changed, but that he always covers the lower and left side of his face, always wears a glove on his left hand and has a turtleneck that covers his whole neck, thus hiding the left side of it. He also now how medium long, ruffled hair.

My first fan character was so super lame that only a week ago I finally let her die. xD; My current character, Nekiko, was sort of based on her though, keeping the basic cat appearance (except for lower placed ears) and even retained facial markings like my last character... who I named after a neopet I named when I was 12... >.>;

My first character, Kittany, I just sort of created in the middle of my first Sonic role play. I just based her appearance on an orange striped cat... and her whole background was so Mary Sue, it hurts to describe it! *Shot*

I don't think you get the piont Antony, the question is how did you come up with the Idea for your character.

Well I came up with this idea from a dream and it felt so incredible that I have to bring this idea to life.

Let me be honest - I have no idea how I got the idea for Ash. The only fan characters I had at the time were created in elementary school (Dash the Hedgehog, Dane The Chameleon, Darc The Bat). One Summer, when I was still a member of Sonic Zone Forums and Ash the wolf was just a new character I created. He was developed greatly from there.

At first, he was apart of a group called Team LAB (created by my sister and I) and for a while, I kept with that. Later on though, Ash ended up with a different group, Team BARC which was made up entirely of my own fan characters. For a long time, Ash was apart of that group, until I began going in-depth on his own story. The idea of WSTR (the corporation that created him) was based on his original creators when I made him up (which was GUN at that time).

Ever since the creation of WSTR, I created character after character that bonded to Ash's storyline and through them, he developed even more. At first, I guess I was unsure about what Ash's character was really like. Then, after a few years, he developed a personality that fit him best.

Ash's appearance was always troublesome to create. The original was a very SA2-like style, with spiky hair, cartoony features, baggy camou pants, and his iron red gauntlets. I wanted to be more realistic with his looks though, so I went through a phase where I would redesign him again and again. These recreations were usually very detailed with only a broadly cartoony flavoring added. The iron red gauntlets from the original would usually be replaced with shackles or just his bare hands. The final version of Ash wears torn jeans, looks realistic with a mix of a next-gen StH style, and wears the red iron gauntlets reminiscent of his original design.

I think Ash's story and style steered slowly darker and more realistic as he "grew up". His final draft, to best put it, is a brutal loner with a dark past (pretty much like a bloodier Shadow rip-off) and a power within him that can turn him into a lean, mean fighting machine (like the Incredible Hulk).
