View Full Version : Your Ideal Job

~ What did you want to be when you grew up (as a kid)?
~ What are you (if anything) now?
~ What do you WANT to be?
I find you can work out a lot about a person by how they answer the first question.
Let me think now when I was a child I wanted to the President of the world until I was told you can only be President if you're American... so that was that. I then wished to be a vet.
Right now I am mainly a university student as that is my full time career for the moment part time. I work selling computer games and game consoles to the worst lot of people from one of the roughest areas of my country... *shudders* NOT the most ideal job I assure you. Verbal abuse is a regular occurrence.
I want to be one of the following:
~ A university lecturer of Economies, Markets and Enterprise
If this does not work out
~ A manager of a financial advice firm

When I grow up~
I do have a few more years to plan this out, but I'd better get started.
What I am now~Well nothing major, just a normal kid planning his career. What I want o be, Are the following~
My first career, I would try is arts and crafts. I think that would work just fine, but just in case.
I would would probably be a game designer or even try to join Sonic team.
I would try start or join a band, Play the piano or Base.
College~
Probably the University of SMU or Texas Southern.
That's all I have in mind, So far.
Edit: Read the first post properly and try again.

When I was a kid I wanted to be a new thing every week.
The ones that I can remember were actress, singer, astronaut, super hero, clown, teacher, doctor and I can actually not remember anymore. xD
What I am? I'm currently studying and on the hunt for a part time job.
And what I want to be?
A singer in a band.
or
An artist
or
A musician that help in the making of video game music.
But my back-up plan is psychologist.

Tempted, but my fiance's little sisters's boyfriend and I are already discussing starting one when I move over to the UK.
And I repeat, read the first post properly and then rewrite your post.

I used to play the piano and kettle drums but I do not any more. Gave up my musical ideals when I was quite young. Shame really because I still love the piano.
Oh I used to want to be a scientist... god knows why because I HATE science and chemistry and all that sort of stuff... *laughs* Obviously a child doesn't think about the learning I guess.
(Oh BK you're moving to the UK? - Where abouts in the UK are you moving to?)

To a town not too far from Birmingham called Burton (on Trent). It's around the middle of the country.
Hehe, I wanted to invent the teleport when I was a kid, but I like neither math nor science. xD

Maths is totally beyond me. I understand more idealistic things or things that do not have definitive rules...
I know of Burton on Trent. Lucky you. I hope you enjoy it here in the UK.

So do I, it's a nice town, not too big and not too small. ^^
So where ya live in Scotland? =O

Unfortunately I live in the VERY big and noisy Glasgow. Have every intention of moving further up north once my degree is done of course. I hate the Glaswegian folk. They're accent is ghastly (hence why I worked so hard to speak clearly and correctly). So if I move up north I can speak to other people who have softer and more gentle accents on the ears than the place of my birth.

Ziggy, you're not a mod so please stop acting like one. There's a report this post link for a reason.
I really don't remember what I wanted to be as a kid. I probably didn't want to be anything. :P
I am currently a web developer for the Northern Star newspaper. I am also interning this summer at Discover Financial Services as a Java programmer.
I would like my career to be in web development or Java.

It's not actually THAT off topic BK wants to be in a band and is moving to advance in that career so I was merely enquiring into it.
So please don't preach. Although it is kindly appreciated.
Java seems WAY too complex for me. I envy you for understanding it Sonikku. *round of applauds*

As a kid my futrue plans use to change between a vet and owning a farm of my own, but I was raised in a farming community so it was in my blood.
Now in year 12, I don't have a job except when I go to the Agriculture shows either with my school or work on the rides. And my dream has not changed since. I love working with animals.
If I get accepted into Uni I will do a vet course but I'll have to hold it back to do a course at Tafe first. If not I enter through Tafe
(Have I answered the question properly)

Dark Phoenix I wish I could work with animals but I get WAY too attached so I'd end up crying easily. I wish you all the best though as it will be an extremely rewarding job when it comes up.
Indeed, the question was answered adequately. You seem smart DP I am certain you'll get accepted into university without a problem.

Aye but it's sad when you see things like abuse cases etc. Like abandoned animals, beaten, abused... etc etc... it sickens me to the pit of my stomach. I just wish people weren't so evil.
I did wish I could be a vet or an old folk worker but I get way too attached so I'd cry.

I use to get attached to the cattle at school and always cried when they went on the truck to get killed but that wore off. But I always fell quezzy when I watch an animal get cut open when they're awake, never when they're asleep.
I think I better stop before I start grossing people out...

We do not do dissections over here and I don't think I could handle that even if it were an animal I absolutely hated like a spider I still couldn't cut it open.
God I am so glad that I'm not a vet or scientist... Oh - I am so glad I stuck in at business. XD
Minty - I think it's in the UK's advantage to be financially minded. I.E. the Scots are tight fisted (Allegedly!) and the English are resourceful. I love stereotypes.

Can't remember what I wanted to be as a kid, probably Spider-Man or some generic shit.
At the moment I'm hoping to go into the business of journalism, like a video game or movie reviewer. I'd love to work for GameSpot some day, like Gerstmann, but without the outrageous stupidity.

As of now, I am just an average sixth grade student. No job yet. ^^
I want to be a script writer for video games, or an actor.
Or a drummer. ^^;
But the closest possible thing is a Script Writer. Fine by me, that sounds good.
And maybe a cut scene programmer, but programming a game sounds super complicated. xD
Also, another choice I have is working for Sulake, an online game company. I would love to be a staff for Habbo Hotel some day. =D

Yeah when i was little I wanted to be an astronaut or a doctor, but my fear of blood got rid of doctor and as for astronaut, i kinda lost intrest.
Today, I would like to work with Nintendo Power of Game Informer. Another idea of mine is to be a game producer. I already made up two sonic games and I'm work on a Kingdom Hearts sequel right now...

Game translator, I've been taking Spanish courses and spent time in Spanish countries for about 8 years.
I'm looking at either German, French, or Japanese for college. English would be nice too.
Of course there's always programming, but it's so boring and confusing at this point, so it's too early to say.

Game Testing can be stressful though it is not as easy as you think. I mean you need to try and bug/crash/screw up the game. Takes a lot of enjoyment out of it.

As a kid, I'm not sure I ever gave much thought on what I wanted to be. I think I figured I would graduate from highschool and the rest of life would be fun and games. Go figure.
Currently, I work as a waitress/cook at a local diner. I get through the shifts, but I know now I'm not the kind of person who could work the rest of their life in a restaurant.
As for the future, I'm not entirely sure. I know I want to go to university at some point. I'm considering a bachelor of arts and just seeing where I can go from there. Possibly an english teacher. I have some fallbacks, like my art and my music and my writing, picked out. If I don't choose the university route, I wouldn't mind opening a business of my own or something.
Hey, I'm young. Not many doors have closed yet.

When I was little I wanted to be a paleontologist... I loved dinosaurs. All the other girls had American Girl dolls... I had some 20 realistic rubber dinosaurs. Other girls, my sister insluded, had Barbie dream house... and I loved playing with my plastic red mountain for dinosaurs to climb... xD
Currently... I'm a high school student. Exciting!
As for what I want to be, I'm still in debate really... my dream job is to become a comic book artist, but that's unrealistic... aside from that, I'd love to be an English-Japanese translator of written materials, such as books and novels. Either that or an English language teacher in Japan. x3
As for my current goals, I'm aiming to get into a good university, and maybe study abroad a few years... I'll have to work like hell to earn grants and scholarships though... xD

I was hoping to do something in the music industry, whether that be production, sound engineering or whatever. But I missed so much work at school after I twisted both my wrist and ankle playing football that I just left.
I've applied to go for a course in media at college in September. Something along those lines would do me a lot of good, seeing asthough I already know how to edit using Adobe Premier Pro 1.5. Plus I know the basics about lighting and sound in studios.
