PWNAGE I took these off of the SZF, then again I wrote them :P
This is the topic for advanced Role Playing, to allow you to think outside the box normally and Role Play on a higher level.
I should cover these topics:
Grammar
Finer points of Role PlayingFirstly, grammar.
When you are typing, there are certain things you must pay attention to.
I have decided, instead of typing everything out, to find notes already on the internet (http://www.sonikku.com/forums/Advanced-Role-Playing-t57488.html#) for you. Here are the links:
Grammar basics (http://www.fortunecity.com/bally/durrus/153/gramch01.html)
More grammar (http://papyr.com/hypertextbooks/grammar/cl_intro.htm)
Some parts that may not have been covered in those links may include: How to split up Paragraphs.
A Paragraph is the begining of a new idea, or the continuation of the same idea, just simply split into portions. A paragraph often has more than five sentences in it. Although, some paragraphs do not. They're not wrong, just shorter, or longer.
When two different people are having conversation, you must split up the paragraphs as so:
QUOTE
I.E.
"Bill, we need to get the rod from him!" Jack said with a hint of emergency in his voice, "Hurry!"
"Hold on, we can't just leave Anya here to die!" Bill replied in a daze.
This is, because usually another person speaking is the begining of another idea or subject.
Advanced Role Playing
Here is the section you have all been waiting for! Adavced DnD--I mean, Role Playing. However, it is not to say that Advanced Role Playing and Dungeons and Dragons (http://www.sonikku.com/forums/Advanced-Role-Playing-t57488.html#) have plenty in common.
Advanced Role Players have a different thought system than normal Role Players. What they do is they firstly think about not just what their characters are doing in the storyline currently, but how they fit into the plot, what their surroundings are and the other characters.
For example, say that you are my character Steve (Whom many of you should familiarize yourselves with) and you are battling a monster in the woods, while separated from your party of friends who are going to the castle to lay siege to it. Steve is an important character to the tale, so obviously he shouldn't die, unless it is required of plot, or to make a new plot twist. However, his friends, depending upon how important he is to the group, would either continue on their quest, or search for him.
This, in an RP helps build some tension and allow for two seperate things to occur at once. Similarly, the same thing happens in movies or books from time to time. You may be watching about a Lawyer arguing his case at the court and it may flash to his family, who are doing different things, at school, persay. Think of LOTR (http://www.sonikku.com/forums/Advanced-Role-Playing-t57488.html#), how they'd have Sam and Frodo for a while in the movie (http://www.sonikku.com/forums/Advanced-Role-Playing-t57488.html#) and elsewhere the rest of the party is battling orcs. They're both happening at the same time, but neither group knows what the other is up to.
Surroundings are often very critical to an RP. If you're battling in a desert, obviously there shouldn't be a thick forest. They also play a role in plot progression or in how you make your actions seem more heroic, or sinister. If you are fighting the guard in the tourture chamber, you don't have to snap his neck or anything fancy like that, but you could push him into the iron-maiden provided there is one. If you're battling in a forest, you can obviously cut down, or climb trees. In a desert, you could burrow under the sand or toss sand at your opponents. If you're fighting near a stream/river, you could drown your opponent or flee across it for safety.
Now in Advanced Role Playing it is perfectly acceptable to kill another character, as long as that person says you can. However, if they are N(on)P(layer)C(haracter)s, you must check with the person who created the topic. If you created an NPC, then you can dispose of them as you like, however don't be creating things that take the RP off course. Every so often it is enjoyable to see a person make a minor quest out of something in the RP. So keep your wits sharp.
If you have any questions, concerns or anything to add, feel free to post it here or PM me.
