View Full Version : Presidential Election

I don't know how many active people there are that live in the U.S.A. here anymore... but anyway, to the point.
Hilary is gone, Obama and McCain are the two left.
Personally, I don't pay much attention to the television or any other form of the election and debates and stuff, but I know a few things, and this is why I'm rooting for McCain:
Number 1, Obama wants to continue drilling for foreign oil, which means that the gas and oil prices are going to keep going up. But McCain wants to drill on our land... which means that they will hopefully stay at the same price or go down.
Number 2, Obama wants to pull our troops out immediately. But that would just be illogical, I mean, we can't just ship them all home. We have to finish our business over there, as McCain said.
Number 3, the rumor going around that Obama's a muslim and that he won't stand with his hand on his heart when they pledge alleigance to the flag. Also, I mean, his middle name is Hussein, and his last name rhymes with Osama... I know this isn't exactly a big issue, [I hope] it is probably just a coincidence, but still.
So, who are you rooting for, and why?

It's kinda hard for me to decide. Base on what you said
1.I do agree we should spend less time and money with foreign oil and start researching on new fuels
2.I absolutely agree with Obama, we need to get out of Iraq NOW!!! As far as I'm conserned we did our job, remove Saddam from power of the country Iraq.
3. Surprisingly I get this one alot from my family and friends. And to put it bluntly, WHO THE FUCK CARES!!!!
So it's 2 for Obama 1 for McCain. So I say Obama

First off, I realize I'm canadian and below voting age. But the media in Canada covers american politics just as much as canadian politics, so naturally I've developed an opinion. I invite anyone and everyone to bicker with me over it - I think SE could use a nice friendly debate.
Second of all, Sonikku you silly: Hussein is of Arabic origin, meaning "good; small handsome one."
And quite frankly even if his parents had the twisted foresight to name their son after Hussein or Bin Laden, I doubt this would have any effect on his competence as a president. I realize this wasn't your big beef with Obama, but I still recommend a more open mind when it comes to names :3
In Canada, we don't elect our actual leader, we vote for a local representative - basically, we vote for the political party, not the leader itself. So looking at it from that perspective, I believe the states could use a democrat leader, at least for the time being. Republicans tend to represent everything that the global community so ruthlessly mocks about Americans: greedy, old-fashioned, self-centered rednecks. Republicans as a rule support war and oppose any form of socialism, including publicly-funded healthcare.
I realize gas prices are a pain right now, but it's forcing us to think twice about how often we drive, and promoting greener living. And there are large sums of money to be saved by pulling out of the war, and your economy could probably use a leg-up.
And just for the record, Barack Obama belongs to the United church ;3

You make a good point, Sparky. I think that we definately need to get out of the war; however McCain's plan of drilling our own land makes the decision very tricky. On the subject of point number three.... I think that's a dumb rumor, if you want my opinion. Overall, Obama's my pick.

The oil prices went through the roof because Bush decided to invade Iraq to begin with. Why?
Well, a close friend of Bush's runs an oil company and apparently that friend got his greedy little hands on most of the oil in Iraq, which is one of the places with the most oil in the world.
Plus that you need to pull out now, get the soldiers out of there NOW. All they're doing right now is dying because there isn't anything they can do, this is between the different peoples of Iraq.
Maybe send in a peace-keeping army later if that's needed, but get those big forces out of there...I'm tired of hearing of soldiers dying because they're kept there without any reason.

I'm not American, Im Canadian, so I could really care less about who wins.
I've heard a lot about Obama and him wanting change... but my lack of news and narrowmindedness about politics just gives me little to no knowledge of what each candidate is going to do. I'll probably google it up and find out the real info (like, lol... the internet isn't always that truthful) rather than look at 3 things that sounds very bias.
And enough with this anti-american comments, we're gonna run out of oil someday, we better be prepared to switch to alternative source of energy in the future. It's bad enough that people go on strike (hint hint: Spain) just for rising fuel cost... they just don't understand law of economics. To be honest, it's about fucking time people starting to become more concern with fuel efficiency and alternative source of energy. Those who depend on barrels of oil rolling down their backyard's powerplant just shows that they're not prepared when there is no more oil left.
My only challenge to the US is how the next president would address this inevitible future and prepare for it. So far, with US (and the rest of the world scratching their heads and thumbs up their ass) worried about high oil costs, they need to stop crying and start planning. Poking holes into the ground for oil doesn't immediately solve oil crisis.

I'm dying with curiosity to know where you get this information from D:
I can understand most Americans having this theory that the good old USA is guzzling all of Iraq's oil for their own greedy little selves. They have no reason to have faith in their president and this little myth about the oil seems to fit his character well enough. And maybe they just don't have a very clear idea of what goes on outside their own nation (lolol).
I have no idea whether or not Bush is friends with an oil company exec or not. But there is some homework to be done if you believe Iraq is being bullied so that the Americans suck its oil supply dry.
America gets most of its oil from Canada.
I had a bit of trouble finding a reliable/recent top 10 list, but I guarantee you Canada is at top the top, along with Mexico, Venezuela, and Saudi Arabia, though I'm uncertain about the order. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
The last time I checked, Iraq was 7th or 8th on the list.

Not sure how this election will turn out.
Personally I don't like McCain.

This could be a tough year for the elections.

I have to say Obama. Finally getting out of Iraq caould bring more jobs to the U.S and not have to worry about having another "World War". Most of the reasons I dislike Mcain is the commercial that was said about that guy who bombed the capitial before 9/11 because all of its lies in it. I'm also pretty sure Obamas goonna win because of what happened with Mcains vice daughters pregency.
The previous has come from the mind of a 12 year old.

With the news I heard today, people who favour McCain is 4% over Obama, McCain: 50%, Obama: 46%. Now, where did the other 4% go? Could be the margin of error, but it's been a long time since I took statistics ): (This is a poll from a magazine. I threw out the newspaper, so I can't recall what magazine it's from)

I think that Obama will(or SHOULD) win.
Palin is completely unfit to serve as president(you'll see why I said president in a second), governor of ALASKA.... ALASKA? You mean that state that is 50-75% ICE? She runs a completely negative campaign, similar to Hillary. Her daughter is PREGNANT, and DRINKING. If you can't hold together a household, then you can't hold together a country.
McCain is running a very dirty campaign. His campaign is simply "Obama sucks", and a rip off of everyone elses. Oh, and he agrees with 90% of what Bush likes. Yeah, so all of these people hate Bush because of that 10%.... Right? RIIIIIIGHT?
About the "Palin = Pres" thing, I'll make it simple. McCain is going to die in office. He has skin cancer, severely messed up arms and one messed up leg, he was beaten constantly, his medical record for 4 years was 1200 pages long, he had multiple kidney stones and some strange things in your neck, and to wrap it all up, he's 76. SEVENTY SIX. People you're either voting for a person YOU DON'T KNOW, or 90% BUSH who 92(?)% of people disagree with!

I realize that, I mean, look at Bush. 2nd term with 90% of him on the way.
McCain looks like he is in pretty bad health, personally I think he's on "borrowed time".

Obviously I was wrong.
Nope, you're actually right. His family in Texas owns... two(?) oil companies.
Ok, lets face it. The government lies. If McCain gets in office, they're probably going to have him in perfect health by his first presidential speech, regardless of age.
Buuuut, his doesn't mean I support him. McCain's speeches just scream George Bush to me. That, and I haven't even heard anything impressionable from him since Sarah hit the scene.
Remember, if you vote for McCain, you'd rather see immediate lower gas prices than the end to... whatever the US thinks is a war. (I was always raised to believe that a War is fought between two large powers, this is more like bullying.) Not to mention if the war ends, gas prices will go down anyway, with all of the troops returning to their jobs.
So yeah, I'm going to go sprinkle confetti on my mini Obama that I got from a democratic convention now. Heehaahur.

I've listen to both Obama and McCain's speeches. Their ideas seem like very good canidates(however that's spelled) but something about McCain just shakes me the wrong way but Obama doesn't. So if I were able to vote I'd vote for Obama. My onlY worry is that Obama might die in office or attempted to be killed by people like the KKK.

Obama will probably be shot, and McCain will probably die in office due to all of those sicknesses.
Hillary probably would've been shot too.
... We're voting for Vice President, aren't we?
