Angel Eyes
Prologue
A cold smirk spreads across the young boy's face as he slowly advances towards the grown man who is lying on the floor, looking terrified.
“Weak was I?” The boy asks the man in a mocking tone, sneering cruelly at him who's fate he's already decided. He starts walking back and forth while looking thoughtful. “Where is mother?” he asks the man
“I-I don't know...P-please, we...I'm sorry for how you were treated. I never wanted to...you know that, don't you?” The man begs the boy while looking up at him with a terrified expression, clutching the edges of his flowing cape.
The boy glances at his father's grip of his cape, but decides to ignore it for now.
“Yes, I know you're sorry father...and I forgive you...” Says the boys calmly while holding out his hand towards his father
“Y-you do?” the man says and slowly stretches his hand forward to grabs the boy's, but when he does he cries out in pain and starts twitching on the floor, trying to pull away from the boy's grip, but finding it impossible.
“BUT I WILL KILL YOU!!” Roars the boy over his father's agonizing screams.
“Where is mother?!” The boy demands as he finally lets go of his father's hand, kicking the twitching and beaten figure in the gut. “Tell me! Or by the Blazing Blades I'll make you scream it to me!!” His gaze is full of hate at the man who is curled up in front of him. To the boy this man is vermin, less then vermin, he was nothing else but something he can get information from.
The full grown man is crying his eyes out, sobbing at the fear of losing his life, twitching from the pain that wouldn't leave his body and shaking in shame of what state he is in.
The boy puts his finger tips to his forehead and sighs deeply before shaking his head.
“I'm tired...” he says simply and snaps his fingers “Guards! Escort this prisoner to one of the cells...I'll deal with him in the morning...” He says in a manner that make it sound like he just asked a maid to clean up a spot on the floor.
“Yes Sir!” The guards reply in unison before gripping the father by the arms and starting to drag his twitching body out of the room.
“And if you let him escape....You'll die...” the boy adds in a tone as calm as if he's just commented on the weather before he leaves the room, walking towards his chamber.
Chapter 1 – Melinda
The moon shone down on the lone guard standing in the training field. His torso was shinning from the sweat running down it as he swung his spear in quick, dance like motions. His every step contained grace and his every thrust with the spear was precise and deadly. He took a step forward and spun his spear along with his movement before he thrust its sharp edge forward, imagining it skewering his target's heart.
The wielder of the spear was a man in his early twenties. He's pretty pale and his hair is such a dark shade of black is almost has a blue color to it.
The man smiled in satisfaction as he lowered his spear, standing at ease as he finally let the night breeze cool him down. His storm green eyes watched his surroundings, enjoying the calm that night brings to the area.
I should better return to my chamber...Only an idiot would think that he can be a good guard when he's almost falling asleep because of exhaustion
He slowly walked over to his shirt, which was just thrown on the ground, and picked it up. Though, before he headed back to his chamber, he took a while to look up at the big full moon.
The night sky looks just like home...
He smiled at the thought of his family as he turned and started heading towards a towering building not far from the training field. The castle of the Royal family of Illiana in the land of Ceal.
I wonder when I'll see them again...
He pondered to himself as he then looked down on the amulet hanging around his neck and smiled.
The amulet was a circle of metal with a pair of wing carved into it. He'd been told, by the person who'd given it to him, that it was meant to bring him speed as if he was carried by wings.
Ah, and to see her again...I hope I can get a leave soon....I miss her so...
With a big smile on his face he looked at the castle ahead and walked with steady steps toward it. Soon the castle gate got within sight and he smiled at the sight of the guards standing outside it. One of them waved to him while the other one gave him a cheesy grin.
“Leon! Back from another late evening training?” asked the guard who'd been waving to the man.
“Ah, yeah...It felt particular refreshing tonight...” Leon replied while smiling at the two guards and then let out a yawn. “But if you two gentleman would excuse me, my bed is calling for me.” he told them with a chuckle
“Heh, alright...” said the second guard and opened the gate for Leon, allowing him to enter the castle.
“Good night...” Leon said before he walked through the gate and started making his way down the castle corridor.
I wouldn't give up this job for the world....my family gets the money they need and my fellow soldiers couldn't be more loyal and good hearted.
He grinned happily at how life was going just his way and looked forward to when he'd finally be able to see his family again, which wouldn't be in too long. At least thats what he'd been promised by the King.
He turned and walked up the stairs while being deep in his thoughts, too deep in his dreams of home to notice the figure that watched him from around the corner.
As he reached the top of the stairs he turned right down the corridor and kept walking, humming a soft lullaby from the country side where he lived.
“Listen to the hum of the willow
And be lulled to sleep by the moon.
Let your head meet the pillow
And know you'll fall asleep soon
Hear the hum of your future lover
And know you're not alone
Get yourself under then cover
Fall asleep to this peaceful tone...”
Just like mum used to sing it to me...
He smiled to himself ones more at the memories of his family as he stoped by a door on the right side of the corridor. He kept humming the tune as he opened the door and got inside, closing the door behind himself.
He didn't bother turning on a light as the full moon gave him enough light to start slipping out of his sweaty and muddy cloths and pull on a pair of boxers before laying down on the bed, not bothering to get under the cover, as it was a hot summer night.
The moment his head hit the pillow he suddenly felt how exhausted he really was, so, it didn't take many minutes before he was quietly asleep on his bed, dreaming of home and of her...Melinda
