Prologue

Metal City
October 22nd, 2017

"There it is." An orange/yellow fox said, pointing a white gloved finger at a brightly lit LCD mini-monitor built into the dash of their transportation, a large white airplane.. "Chaos Emerald detected within the Metal City Bank." The fox slightly adjusted the autopilot's settings and then placed both hands back on the manual flight controls. He looked around the back of his chair.

"All right little buddy. Step on it before Egg-head does." A blue hedgehog said, green eyes twinkling from the light of the LCDs. This was Sonic the Hedgehog. Hero of the planet Mobius many times, and the fox was his closest ally and mechanic, Miles "Tails" Prower. Both were unique from the others in their 'classes'. Sonic had a natural ability to run at speeds rivaling the speed of sound, and Tails could fly with the assistance of his second tail.

Tails turned his attention back to the screen. Then his eyes widened as he watched the blip move.

"Eh....Rouge is still on vacation with Shadow down in Station Square still, right?"

Sonic nodded. "Yeah. Why?"

The fox punched a button on his LCD. A live infared feed appeared, courtesy of the plane's sensors. On-board computers located the blip's current location and changed the sensors' eye of influence to match it, move for move. The Chaos Emerald, the object that Sonic and Tails were in pursuit of, was clutched in the hands of a hawk-type Mobian. With him was a swallow and an albatross. They calmly slammed through a large glass window.

Sonic and Tails stared. "They must be pretty confident about their flight ability." Tails remarked.

"Stay on them." Sonic said. Tails nodded and took the plane off of autopilot. Then he noticed that the birds were not flying naturally. They were being propelled by thin snowboard-like craft. Tails blinked. "They're using Extreme Gear!"

Then the thieves shot off like corks. Tails brought the plane's full sensors up and started to sweep, detecting a faint signature. He slammed the throttle to full force and started the pursuit.

Little did he know, was that another Extreme Gear boarder had rose up from the streets of Metal City behind him. The newcomer had a black-gray board that glowed. Mounted on the sides and on the board's top itself were red and blue strobes. On the bottom of the board, a strange insignia was there. A white octagonal O with a C and a P fitted neatly inside.

Meanwhile, Tails could not keep up. The Extreme Gear boards were very new and this plane wasn't as fast as his X-Tornado. He only got a minimal increase in speed after shutting down unnecessary systems. That really ticked the fox off.

Then he noticed the red and blue strobe lights of the new 'Gear boarder. Sonic was also watching.

"What.....is that?"

Tails stared at the new boarder. Then he heard a pinging noise from his communications system. He brought up COMM on his LCD monitor. The board's occupant was very strange and unique. It was an orange/yellow fox, whose fur was nearly the color of Tails' own. It was wearing a strange, sleek, metallic armor suit as well as a helmet that covered most of it's head, with the exception of its ears and muzzle and a wisp of bangs.

Then words appeared under its image.

STATION SQUARE POLICE DEPARTMENT. CY-FOX: CRIME PREVENTION UNIT 004, OCP

"Geez!" Sonic said. "Finally, a cop when you need one."

Then the police cyborg spoke for the first time. On the camera, it seemed to lock eyes with Tails.

"Stay with me.." The cyborg had a familar voice to Tails, but he couldn't place it. It was mechanical and a bit deepened with age. Tails nodded slightly. "I can't really keep up.."

The cyborg on the video feed seemed to slightly lower its head. "Adjust your systems to these specifications. You are now an authorized temporary pursuit officer of the Station Square Police Department."

Tails then blinked as he saw his own plane's designs scrolling across his screen until the system showed what he should do. He started the adjustments. But something bothered him.

"How do you know so much about my plane?!"

The cyborg fox slightly shook its head. "No time. Later when we get them."

"You mean if." Sonic said.

The cyborg seemed to slightly smile. It was a smile that made Sonic feel as if he was thrown in a pool of cold water. "I never lost a pursuit."

Tails looked up from his monitor. "I'm finished!" The cyborg nodded slightly. "Good. Follow me. We'll get them." He cut the COMM-link and shot off in a set direction. Tails brought the plane to full throttle again and felt the frame of the plane beginning to shake, but that was slowly fixing itself. They shot off at 95% of the speed of the cop on the Extreme Gear, as indicated by the cyborg's own systems.

The police fox weaved naturally through the air, noticing the purple swallow banking into the skyscraper congested part of the city. Bio-Scans sensed the rest were with her. On Tails' plane, the cyborg was indicated on their radar by a red/blue flashing dot. He banked after the group of bird bandits and then kicked into a higher speed mode, used only on Pursuit Gear. Overdrive.

The group of thieves then heard the loud drone of the cop's Gear. They looked back.

"COP!" the swallow yelled. The hawk gulped. "No.....REALLY?" The albatross slightly banked. "I'll fix him." The albatross moved his feet on his board and the bottom slightly opened. Revealing a small set of missiles.

The cop continued to push on. Then the albatross fired his complete set. Tails detected them on his LCD. "Those are Gates-119s!" he exclaimed. "They're too fast for Extreme Gear."

The cyborg fox continued to press on. Seeing the missiles visually and on his sensors. It calmly opened a plate in its leg armor and pulled a massive black, shiny gun out.

"No....." Tails said, peering closer into his live video LCD. "He's not....he's crazy!"

The cyborg then targeted the closest missile and squeezed the gun's trigger. A jet of flame escaped from the barrel and the missile exploded. Thunder seemed to have rumbled from it.

"JESUS CHRIST!" Tails yelled. The cyborg targeted another missile. Down it went. Then the third. Then the fourth. Then the final one. The albatross gulped and the group stopped hovering, continuing their escape.

"Freeze." the cyborg said loudly, its voice being amplified. "Station Square Police Department. You are in violation of Metal City law for burglary, breaking and entry, resisting arrest, grand theft, and attempted murder of a police officer. I am authorized to use lethal force."

"SHIT!" the hawk said. "We can't turn ourselves in. The boss won't like it."

"So what's keeping you from running honey?" the swallow said.

"Uh...how about the big f*cking handcannon that he just shot my missiles down with." the albatross said.

"No choice." the swallow said

"Gotta try to make it." the albatross said.

"Or die." The hawk said.

They also kicked into Overdrive, their boards being stolen Pursuit Gear, the swallow having hacked their tracers and the Overdrive system. But that didn't help them.

It just gave the cyborg an easier target. Locking onto their exhaust, the cyborg placed them all in its sights and quickly fired three bursts, moving its gun hand fluidly to each target. Fire burst from the back of all three boards, and they started to slowly drop.

Tails watched in horror. He keyed his COMM. "Aren't you going to get them?"

The cyborg twirled the gun by one finger, back into its holster. "You'll get your Emerald."

"But aren't they going to be killed?" Tails said.

"That's not my problem." the cyborg said, coldly. "Thank you for your cooperation. Good night."

It turned in their direction and shot off, strobe lights now off.
